TL Math Club

The Math Club is offered by Marc Zafferano, a TL parent. The club is open to all grade levels, and it introduces students to math concepts, ideas, and history that they wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to in their classes. Participants explore number patterns, famous unsolved math problems, infinity, fractals, and topology. The students will also discover connections between math and voting, computers, sports, music, and game shows. Other topics include how math can help us understand physics, relativity, the possibility of time travel, the structure of the universe, and even string theory. Mr. Zafferano uses video clips from movies, educational films produced by KQED’s NOVA series, and in-class demonstrations to make the material fun and accessible for all ages. For most sessions, Mr. Zafferano has handouts for the students, but no outside work is required. The Club meets Wednesdays from 1:15 to 2:00 in the Art Room. If you’re interested in having your child participate in this program, contact Principal John Nazar or Marc Zafferano directly at mlz@adcl.com.
